On-Page Optimization tips and suggestions

For websites, in order to get in good result pages of Search Engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN, needs good optimization of websites. There are two types of Search Engine optimization (SEO) – On-page optimization and Of-page optimization.

We are going to talk about On-Page optimization

The On-Page SEO comprise of five main parts

  • Title of the page
  • URL
  • Meta Description
  • ALT Tags for Images
  • Contents in the body

Make sure you research your targeted keywords before you start optimizing your website.

Okay let’s begin On-Page SEO strategies

Title of the Page:

When you take a look at title of any website, you will see some words or sometimes even a small phrase, and if you look up carefully, the title will reveal what the website is about. If it is about car rentals, you will see related keywords in the Title. Actually the job of a Title of any website is not just give information for visitor but it lets Search Engines to find out what the website is really about. Search Engines keeps record of that website by crawling from the top to the bottom. So in the top, there is a Title.

Sometimes you find funny looking URL, e.g. http://yourdomain.com/po=J35DSvsecs, this will cause confusions for Search Engines and they don’t like such URL. So you have to get a good SEO friendly URL e.g., http://yourdomain.com/contact-us and sometimes it is useful whenever you need to put keywords in the URL.

Meta-Description

Meta Description contains small descriptions of your website. It also contains valuable keywords related to your website. You can make few sentences and do not forget to add keywords so because of this, your visitor will be keen to learn more about your website. It can also contain phone numbers sometime.

Code Structure

Heading tags such as H1…H2…H3 are key spot of keywords – H1 being the most important spot. H1 should be targeted as the best spot for your primary keyword. People tend to use Flash and Shockwave in their websites in order to look beautiful. The intention is good, but Search Engines aren’t interested in good looking websites. They want straightforward things like simple design with keyword optimized contents. Google bots which scan the whole contents and analyze them, and identify what keywords are being used in the content that will describe what the website is trying to tell. Search Engine can not read Javascript properly. So it should be avoided. There are few debates on using bold tag or the strong tag for better optimization. Google’s Matt Cutts said they are both good.

Alt Attributes

Even though content optimization, Title tags, Meta tags and Heading tags are important, some of us might forget about images. While you add images in your website, they are the one who also need optimization. Images are added by putting ALT tags so that the Search Engines knows what the images are about.  This will defiantly create good ranking in Image Search in Search Engines like Google Image Search.

Content

The last point is one of the most important. Whether you have content to sell your products or your product is the content it’s important to have enough relevant content all your pages. Make sure the entire page reads smoothly and is understandable because humans buy products not search engine bots. It’s good to link out to other sites as long as they are relevant. Be careful of having too many outbound links on any one page of a site. Many people have the misconception that you build a website and then kick back and watch the money roll in. Building a website is a job that is truly never done. You should always be updating and modifying information on your sites. If you want people coming back to your site you have to give them something to come back for. By adding new content to a site you also improve your chance of ranking well in Google. Regular updates will help your site get indexed faster. Search engines will see frequently updated sites as up to date, accurate and relevant.

Obviously the most important part of On-Page SEO is content. Whether the content is vital for Search Engines or for visitors, it is inevitable fact that without content, no websites can survive. In this scenario, the content should be written for both humans and Search Engines. For humans, they need quality, compressive and easily readable content so that they make an understanding on what the website is trying to offer or sale. For Search Engines, the content needs to be written with full optimization of keywords. Without keywords Search Engines won’t notice what the webpage is trying to do, so they avoid it and won’t be ranked. Always make sure that you are writing for real people and not for machines. Moreover you should always include keywords properly and wisely if you really want to get ranked well by Search Engines.

On-site Optimization is first brick you put to start whole optimization process. It should never be overlooked. If you follow the steps carefully you will definitely get your goal.
